If your family is new to our community, ACG Parnell College offers an orientation programme at all levels to help you and your child settle in to school life.
We make every effort to make your child’s transition to ACG Parnell College as smooth as possible.
We encourage you and your child to learn as much about the school as you can before enrolment. That’s why we offer Open Days throughout the year, as well as weekly guided tours and the opportunity to be a ‘student for a day’ before starting.
We interview you and your child before enrolment so we can find out more about your child’s strengths, personality, attributes, personal challenges, preferred subjects, and your expectations. It’s also an opportunity for you and your child to ask any questions you may have about the school.
At the end of each year there is an Orientation Day. This is an opportunity to meet others enrolled to start in the following year. Our Primary School (Years 1-6) and College (Years 7-13) each have separate orientation sessions for our families.
When your child begins study at ACG Parnell College, they are allocated a tutor. They’re also assigned a buddy for the first two weeks. The buddy is usually an older student from your child’s multi-age tutor group, and shows your child around the campus. Your child’s buddy will point out classrooms and lockers, explain the procedures for breaks and go over the school rules.
In the first few weeks, the deans will approach your child to make sure they’re happy and adjusting well to school life. They will also contact you to find out how your child is settling in.
If your child is starting at ACG Parnell College in Years 7, 9 or 12, we encourage them to complete some online courses that we provide, to help with their transition.
