Middle school – Years 7-11

Developing a broad base

In middle school, students are taught by specialist teachers and get the chance to enjoy our subject-specific learning facilities. Our courses are flexible and individualised to meet your child’s needs. Strengths and weaknesses are identified, and students are offered opportunities to extend their talents or receive extra support.

These years form the basis for senior study and qualifications. Work covered previously is consolidated, and new subject areas are developed. The programme is broad-based to develop the diverse skills required for senior-level study.

At this level, homework is set on a regular basis and ongoing assessments are conducted in each subject. Your child will sit school examinations in terms Two and Four.

Comprehensive reports on your child’s progress are provided twice a year. Your child’s teachers will explain and discuss the contents of these reports at parent–teacher interviews, or by phone or email at other times. In addition, Achievement Conference Days are run as an opportunity for your child to individually set goals with their teacher.

Enrichment and extension

Gifted and talented students are extended through a personalised approach to ensure each student is working to their full potential. The opportunity to advance to higher levels in Mathematics in Years 8, 9 and 10, and Science in Year 10, is available to students if teaching staff feel they will benefit. Advanced Year 10 students will have the opportunity to sit Cambridge IGCSE subjects.

Creative and critical thinking

The school’s strong focus on literacy and numeracy skills continues in middle school. Students apply their developing creative and critical thinking skills in writing and speaking, and ICT (Information and Computer Technology) is integrated into most courses.

Year 11 (IGCSE)

At this level, students start specialising in subject areas. With the help of teaching staff, your child will choose some of their own courses. This is usually five IGCSE subjects, plus Leadership (one period per week). AS subjects are available if your child meets the entry criteria.

Sports, arts & activities

We encourage our students to get involved in a wide range of sports, arts and cultural activities during their time at school.
